Khanpur Dam, located in district Haripur of KPK province, is a beautiful gem. The dam is built over the Haro river that flows from Abbottabad and passes through the Haripur area, where it finally meets the dam. Haro river is a small tributary of the Indus River. The lake was constructed along with the construction of Khanpur Dam in 1983. It is a famous tourist place to enjoy boating, fishing, swimming, adventure, and water sports. Khanpur is a center for sugarcane and cotton crops.
The 40-foot-deep dam was built during Ayub Khan’s presidency. The dam was built for irrigation, supplying drinking water to Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
